Summary: It’s July in
Moosetookalook, Maine, and Scottish Emporium proprietress Liss MacCrimmon
Ruskin is prepping her wares for the annual Western Maine Highland Games. But
when a suspicious fire leads to the disappearance of an entire family, and the
sound of gunshots on the opening day of the Celtic festival leads to a dead
body, Liss races to nab an elusive killer. Unable to shake the feeling that new
victims are being targeted around town, she’ll need to act swiftly, because
when it comes to this kind of game, somebody has to lose . . .!
Angie’s comments: This is the 10th book in the Liss MacCrimmon series,
but it is the first that I have read. It works as a stand-alone novel with enough
information about past events and characters. It is a charming cozy mystery
about a small village.
Recommended for readers of cozy mysteries.

Dead Air and Double Dares
Summary: Who killed Horace
Q. Ogilvie, owner of Elmwood’s radio station and the most hated man
in town? Crystal Cropper, editor of the Elmwood Gazette, needs to solve
the mystery—pronto! Horace turned up dead just moments before he planned to
ruin yet another Elmwood luminary with a vindictive radio editorial. The good
news? Horace left a list of future VIP targets, so the police have plenty of
suspects. The bad news? Crystal’s name is at the top!
Angie’s comments: This is the second book in the Elmwood Confidential series by
local author Janis Thornton. I highly recommend reading the first book before
the second. Dead Air and Double Dares
is a fun continuation of the series, with humor and some drama involving
Cropper’s past. Cropper is a fun character who ends up in some interesting
predicaments.
Recommended for readers who like cozy
mysteries.
